Use in landscape design
There is a place for this rose in the garden, even if the summer cottage is very small. These bushes are quite compact, and therefore they can be grown even on 6 acres, which are familiar to Russians. Landscape designers use it in park design. They also look great in mixborders, look great against the emerald green background of the lawn, complement any composition of other colors, often becoming its center. These roses are especially great as a hedge.
Growing a flower
This rose variety cannot be called picky, but you should be careful about where and how to plant this flower. You will need this to enjoy its beautiful appearance and bright aroma to the fullest.
Planting in the regions of Central Russia is carried out in the spring (in April-May), but the preparation of the planting pit and soil is carried out in the autumn.
Seat selection
The area where the rose will be planted should be well lit and sheltered from gusts of wind and drafts. Preferably morning lighting for 6 hours, the scorching rays of the sun will not have a beneficial effect, they can cause burns. Therefore, when landing on the south side, a little shading will be required. The best location option is the eastern side, where the sun rises and the sun is especially active in the morning hours.
You can not plant a plant in lowlands and places where water stagnates, and cold air prevails.
How to prepare the soil and flower for planting
The soil is harvested in the fall. At this time (September-October), the earth is dug up and mineral and organic fertilizers are introduced into it. If this work is not carried out in the fall, it is carried out in the spring 2-4 weeks before the appointed time. Most often, rose seedlings are sold in packages, so additional preparation of the plant itself is not required. If the root system is open, it needs to be kept in a growth stimulator for a day.
Landing procedure
Step-by-step instruction:
- A wide planting hole (70 × 60 cm) is dug. The root system of the bush should freely enter it.
- A 10 cm drainage layer is poured into the bottom of the pit.
- Organic fertilizer, ash and superphosphate are laid on top of the drainage.
- Prepared soil mixture is poured on top with a slide and 0.5 buckets of water are poured.
- The seedling is placed in the middle of the hole so that the roots do not touch the fertilizers. They should be 5-8 cm higher.
- The hole is covered with soil, the soil is compacted and watered abundantly. Mulching with peat is possible.
Plant care
Caring for the Summer Song rose consists in observing the basic rules of watering, feeding, pruning, and pre-winter preparation.
Watering rules and humidity
Watering is carried out depending on weather conditions 1-2 times a week. If the summer is hot and dry, you will have to water it 3 times every 7 days. 10-15 liters of water are poured under 1 bush. Sprinkling and spraying procedures are carried out.
Top dressing and soil quality
In the first year after planting, the representatives of this variety do not need additional feeding. The fertilizers that were applied to the planting pit are enough for them. Further, in the spring, nitrogenous fertilizers are applied to form a green mass. After the buds begin to form and during the flowering period, fertilizers containing potassium and phosphorus are applied, which will make the flowering brighter and more lush. Top dressing is carried out every 2-3 weeks, combining them with watering.
The soil should be nutritious and loose, chernozem is preferred, but you can also grow in loamy soil. The acidity index is important: it should be between 6.0 and 6.5 pH. It can be adjusted with peat or manure (slightly acidic soil) or ash, lime (excessively acidic soil).
Pruning and replanting
First, make a short pruning of the bushes. This is the very first pruning necessary for the bush to branch better, to form more shoots and buds.In the future, it is enough to cut the branches by 1/3 annually, removing old, damaged branches. This can be done both in early spring and late autumn. Spring pruning is preferable.
Features of wintering a flower
Preparation for winter begins in autumn; in September, fertilizer is applied for the last time. Reduce watering during this time of year as well. At the onset of the first frost, the stems are shortened, all leaves and remaining inflorescences are completely cut off. Before the rose, they collect all the fallen leaves and debris, burn them (to prevent the appearance of some insect pests). The bushes are mulched with peat, compost or humus, bowed and insulated with spruce paws, holding them with the help of special garden arches.
Blooming rose
The Summer Song rose blooms for a very long time, spectacularly and brightly with beautiful brick-colored flowers, similar to the lush flowers of peonies. During flowering, the garden is filled with a wonderful aroma.
A period of activity and rest
Flowering occurs at the end of May and, depending on the region, can last until November. Most often, the last flowers wither after the onset of autumn frosts.
Care during and after flowering
During flowering, it is required to systematically apply potassium-phosphorus fertilizers and cut fading flowers in time. This stimulates the formation and opening of new buds.
What to do if it does not bloom
There are several possible reasons for the lack of flowering of the Summer Song rose:
- wrong landing site. This may be due to a too shaded place, the wrong type of soil, the proximity of groundwater;
- improper flower care, most often it is an excess of moisture or nitrogen in the soil;
- insect pests or diseases.
Flower propagation
Flower propagation occurs in one way - by cuttings. This is a hybrid variety, so seed propagation will not work.
The stalk is cut from a young stem, its length should be about 10 cm. It is cut from the middle part of the shoot; the stalk should have at least 3 large buds and several leaves. The lower leaf is removed completely, the upper one is shortened by 1/3. The cuttings are immersed in a root solution for several hours and planted immediately in open ground, on top of which a dense layer of sand is poured. The seedlings are covered with bottles or glass jars. Periodically, the shelter is removed for ventilation, and 3 weeks after rooting, it is removed completely.
Diseases, pests and ways to control them
Roses of this variety are immune to most diseases. Sometimes insects, typical for flowering plants, attack: aphids, ticks, scale insects. They must be removed immediately with the help of special insecticides.
Rose Sommer Song is ideal for all lovers of bright, unusual, exclusive colors. It is compact, unpretentious, even a beginner can handle its cultivation. And the whole garden will be filled with the wonderful aroma that she emits throughout the summer.
