Rose Sim Salabim (Simsalabim) - description of the hybrid tea variety

Simsalabim (KORsimsala) is the most unusual rose. You never know what color the next bud will please. On one bush, yellow and dark red ones can bloom at the same time and vice versa. You can get pure yellow flowers or instead of yellow, the petals turn out to be white. The number of buds on the stem is also impossible to predict.

Rose Sim Salabim (Simsalabim) - what is this variety

The Simsalabim rose (KORsimsala) is a member of the Rosaceae family (floribunda group of roses). This perennial shrub was obtained in Germany (the description of the Simsalabim rose is given by the hybridizer Kordes) by crossing a remontant and a tea.

What does the rose Sim Salabim look like?

Brief description and characteristics

This is an upright compact bush up to 80 cm high. The buds are large, goblet. The petals are yellow with burgundy stripes. The flowering of the culture is repeated, that is, buds (1-3 pcs. On the stem) appear throughout the growing season (June - November) until the very frost. The aroma is barely noticeable. The foliage is not abundant, dense green. The variety is frost-resistant, tolerates direct sunlight well.

For your information! Young plants can be planted from March to October.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The variety compares favorably with strong immunity. Great for garden decoration and for cutting. The buds delight the eye for a long time. They are not afraid of rain or heat. The variety has a very abundant and long-lasting flowering, as well as a beautiful, unusual color of the petals.

As a disadvantage, many growers note the reversion. Often, over time, the bush can change and return to the state of an ordinary tea rose or rose hip.

Use in landscape design

In landscape design, the variety is used in many variations. A single rose can become the central figure of an alpine slide. It also looks great in group plantings with other roses. As a tall variety, Sim Salabim looks more advantageous in the background. Bushes can be used to frame curbs and paths.

Growing a flower

The Sim Salabim variety is ideal for cutting. It is grown in greenhouses and outdoors. The main condition for optimal growth is a suitable air temperature. It should not be below -10 ° С and above 30 ° С.

The second important condition is the occurrence of groundwater. Their maximum level is 1 m.

In open ground, you can plant rooted seedlings, grafted cuttings on an already growing hybrid tea bush, sow with seeds in special nursery beds.

Note! The culture is suitable for both spring planting and autumn planting. More often it is planted in the spring so that the bush adapts to the local climate and endures the next winter without problems.

Seat selection

This variety tolerates direct sunlight well. The buds retain their firmness and freshness even when exposed to water. Sim Salabim is afraid only of strong cold winds and a close occurrence of groundwater. A place in an open, sunny area would be ideal.

How to prepare the soil and flower for planting

The soil for the bush is prepared independently. It should consist of:

  • river sand - 10 liters;
  • humus - 10 l;
  • peat - 10 l;
  • clay - half a bucket;
  • handfuls of bone meal and superphosphate.

Planting procedure step by step

The step-by-step planting process looks like this:

  1. A hole is dug to the size of the root ball.
  2. The bottom of the hole is laid out with drainage (expanded clay, pebbles, broken brick).
  3. Compost is laid out on top.
  4. Everything is covered with prepared earth.
  5. The roots of the plant, doused with clay mash, are spread over the surface of the earth.
  6. The root system is covered with the remaining soil.
  7. The root zone is mulched.
  8. The young plant is watered abundantly.

Important!The inoculation site deepens by 5-7 cm.

Plant care

Rose bush care is not straightforward. Like all roses, Sim Salabim is capricious. The culture needs proper regular watering, feeding, pruning. You should also monitor your health (examine for diseases and pests).

Watering rules and humidity

The rose bush should be watered in April. Since the soil is moist after winter, less water is required.

In dry weather, watering is recommended every three days. Young bushes need 10 liters of water, and large ones will need up to 40 liters. Experts advise watering the crop in the morning.

For your information! There is one method for determining the need for watering. To do this, a hole is dug next to the bush with a depth of 15 cm.If its bottom becomes dry, then it's time to water.

Mulching the root zone will allow you to save moisture. Used as mulch:

  • sawdust;
  • peat;
  • fir needles;
  • humus.

Important! A strong wind dries up the soil, therefore water consumption increases.

Before the onset of cold weather, watering is required more abundant and completely stops at the first frost.

Top dressing and soil quality

If, when planting, the soil was balanced and fertilized, then in the next 2-3 years the roses can not be fertilized.

From the fourth season, top dressing is required. At the beginning of the growing season, nitrogen-containing fertilizers are required, and at the end of summer (August-September) phosphates and potassium supplements.

Pruning and replanting

Pruning rose bushes is done twice a year. The main one is in early spring (before the start of sap flow). Gentle pruning will allow the culture to bloom earlier, damaged, diseased, growing inward and weak shoots are removed.

Experts advise:

  • leave 3-5 strong shoots;
  • the height of the remaining branch of the branch is not less than 10 cm;
  • the lateral branches of the main stem must be shortened;
  • shoots older than two years must be cut out.

Note! In the climbing rose Sim Salabim, you need to leave 3-5 annual and 3-5 two-year-old flowering shoots.

Features of wintering a flower

For better preservation, the culture should be covered for the winter.

For this you need:

  1. Remove leaves and buds from the bush.
  2. Cut off all shoots in half.
  3. Spud the bush to a height of 25-30 cm.
  4. Cover with pine spruce branches or dry leaves, sawdust.
  5. Cover with snow.

Blooming rose

Simsalabim blooms with yellow buds with burgundy stripes. Flower size is about 10 cm in diameter. He himself is terry with 30-35 petals. Blooms for almost 5-6 months.

The original flower will not leave indifferent any gardener

A period of activity and rest

Already in June, the first buds appear (by the way, it is better to cut them off so that flowering is plentiful), and flowering continues until frost. At the same time, the elasticity and shape of the buds are retained to the last.

Thus, the periods of dormancy and flowering in a plant are approximately the same.

Care during and after flowering

To obtain a profusely flowering bush during the flowering period, additional nutrition is required. Planting organic matter should be fertilized twice a month. A 10% mullein solution is suitable for this.

Variety of flowers

The health of the buds is directly dependent on potassium. Its disadvantage can be leveled by watering the bushes with a solution of wood ash (a glass of 10 liters of water)

Of the finished fertilizers, good results are obtained:

  • potassium nitrate;
  • superphosphate.

Note! At the end of flowering, the roses should be fed with double superphosphate (potassium magnesium). Enough 10 g for 8 liters of hot water. You need to add the solution after cooling. And, of course, adhere to the watering rules.

What to do if it does not bloom

The flowering of a rose directly depends on the dressing. From the end of June until the very frost, it must be fertilized every 2 weeks.

Also, there will be no good flowering if the planting rules and pest infestations are not followed.

Flower propagation

Rose Simsalabim reproduces in three ways. Rooting of cuttings is more successful.

Rooted stalk

Cutting begins with the beginning of budding of the bush and continues until the end of July. The planting bed should be done at a depth of 15-20 cm, and the cuttings themselves should be planted at an angle. Before rooting, the nursery is covered with a film. The cover is removed only for watering, loosening, fertilizing.

Important! If buds appear, then they need to be removed so that the root system is better strengthened.

For the winter, the garden bed needs shelter. The seedlings are planted in a permanent place at the age of three.

Another way is vaccination. This is when the stem is grafted onto a tea rose. The graft is cut from a healthy lignified shoot, preferably from a zoned bush. The grafting process itself can be viewed on special videos on YouTube.

The third way to grow roses is from seeds, but with this method the varietal qualities may not be preserved.

Rose seeds

For your information! The seeds are harvested at the end of August.

When breeding a crop with seeds, you should:

  1. Free the seed from the pulp by cutting the seed capsule.
  2. Rinse in hydrogen peroxide for at least a quarter of an hour.
  3. Put on stratification (2 months).
  4. Sow in a seedling container or open ground.
  5. Provide temperature and watering conditions.

The temperature for seedlings is required in the range of 18-20 ° C, and daylight hours - at least 10 hours.

Diseases, pests and ways to control them

Salabim, like other varieties of roses, is subject to pest attacks and some diseases.

Powdery mildew

Most often, the plant dies from root rot or powdery mildew. This happens when there is excess moisture. Either the place was chosen incorrectly - a close occurrence of groundwater or excessive watering.

Of the pests, the most dangerous enemy is the spider mite. It cannot be confused with anything, leaves and stems are covered with cobwebs. These small pests draw out all the juices from the bush. A plant deprived of nutrition withers and dries up.

Chemistry will help in the fight against them. The following drugs have proven themselves well:

  • actellik;
  • bankcol;
  • confidor;
  • karbofos.

The treatment will have to be repeated at least 4 times per season. The break between treatments is 3 days. Work should be carried out in dry, calm weather in the morning or evening.

Important! We must not forget about the means of protection.

The variety Sim Salabim is so unusual that the question arises: "Is it a rose?" Lemon-yellow petals of the bud are full of maroon stripes, stains, splashes. They are always different. Although the variety is not often found in the gardens of Russia, it can take the main place on any site.
