Content:

He is especially liked by those who prefer to decorate their flower garden in romantic light colors.
Rose Gloria Day - what is this variety
Work on the breeding of the flower started in 1935 in an ordinary nursery in France, where many new species were bred. And this particular strain could have been rejected because it only had 3 buds to inoculate. However, breeders were interested in a lush, densely double bud and an unusual delicate color. Only 1 bud out of 3 was able to take root and lay the foundation for a new hybrid tea variety, which a few years later simply blew up the world rose market.
This rose has several names at once in different countries:
- F. Meilland, the head of the family business, dedicated the flower to his mother, who died early, therefore in France the original name of the flower is Mme Antoine Meilland;
- the exhibition name of the flower is Peace (peace), the same rose is called in all English-speaking countries;
- in Germany the flower is called Gloria Dei (Glory to God);
- Italian name - Gioia (Joy);
- in the Soviet Union, this rose was called Glory to the World.

Growing a flower
Planting this variety of roses in open ground is similar to planting many other hybrid tea varieties.
Climbing rose Gloria Day is planted in open ground in one way - with seedlings, which can be freely purchased at the horticultural market, nursery or flower shop.
Seat selection
The flower is planted in a sunny place, which is protected from drafts and gusty winds. It is good if any green manure plants were grown in front of the rose in this place. For this variety of roses, legumes or asters are those.
How to prepare the soil and flower for planting
Soil preparation begins in the fall. At this time, the land where the rose will be grown is well dug up, mineral and organic fertilizers are applied (cow dung is most often preferred from organic matter). Then add the garden fertile soil. That's all, the soil mixture for spring planting is ready.
Plants are prepared just before planting: cut off the shoots, leaving 2-3 of the strongest ones, the length of which should be about 13 cm. The root system is cut by 30 cm.
Landing procedure
Step-by-step instruction:
- In the spring, when the soil settles, holes 30x30 cm are dug in it.The distance between the flowers should be at least 30 cm, between the rows - at least 50 cm.
- The roots of the flower are carefully straightened and the hole is covered with soil.
- The substrate is well tamped and watered.
- A young seedling is sprinkled with peat 15 cm.
Plant care
Gloria Day rose care is not difficult. In order for a plant to grow, develop and bloom, a number of elementary rules must be observed.
Watering rules and humidity
Watering is necessary plentiful, however, in the intervals between procedures, the soil should have time to dry out. It is best to water the flower at the root, avoiding moisture on the leaves and buds. Thus, the soil should be moistened once every 3-4 days. Watering is carried out only in the evening, when the sun has already gone down the horizon.
Top dressing and soil quality
The soil should be nutritious, loose and neutral in acidity. It is not recommended to plant a flower in places where groundwater is too high.
Rose Gloria Day responds well to feeding. The first is carried out in the spring, as soon as the flower begins to wake up. At this time, mineral fertilizers with a good nitrogen content are preferred. Humus and compost are also introduced. During the budding period, it is recommended to introduce solutions of humus or bird droppings, with the latter you should be careful, since it is very concentrated.
Pruning and replanting
Pruning is not required during the first year of life.Later, at the end of autumn, a formative pruning of the variety is carried out, damaged branches or unnecessary branches are removed, preparing the flower both for winter and for a new abundant flowering next year.
Features of wintering a flower
As soon as the temperature drops, usually from the second half of October, the Gloria Day rose is spud, covered with spruce paws and sawdust. If the climate is cold and / or the winter is snowless, complete covering of the entire plant with a special garden material is required. In the spring, the shelter is not removed immediately, but gradually, accustoming the bush to new, warmer temperatures.
Blooming rose
Since Gloria Day is a re-flowering, the breaks between flowering periods will hardly be noticeable if you follow the rules of caring for her during flowering.
A period of activity and rest
The period of activity occurs most often in the 2nd half of June, at this time the most magnificent flowering. The duration is about 30 days, and about 40 buds have time to form on the bush. But the lifespan of each flower is short, the buds dry out after 3-4 days. The second wave begins almost immediately. If properly cared for, the buds will be just as large until the first cold weather.
Care during and after flowering
The first step is to cut the wilting buds. As soon as the flower has faded, it must be removed immediately. This will give the plant the strength to form a new one. During this period, fertilizing with potassium-phosphorus fertilizers is also required.
What to do if it does not bloom
The reasons for the lack of flowering always lie on the surface. It is imperative to analyze the conditions that are created for the rose. For no reason, she will not shed the buds or refuse them altogether. A shaded planting site, overflows / underflows, improperly selected fertilizers or lack of them are all possible reasons why Gloria Day does not bloom.
Flower propagation
Since Gloria Gray is a hybrid, it will not work to propagate it by seeds, otherwise the main characteristics of the mother plant will not be preserved. Therefore, the surest way is grafting.
Cuttings are cut from the stems of the second year of life (not earlier). They should have 3 buds and 3-4 leaves. The thorns are removed completely, the bottom sheet is removed, the top one is cut off by 1/3. During the day, the cutting is kept in a solution of a root growth stimulant, after which they are planted in open ground and covered with plastic bottles, which are periodically raised for ventilation. After rooting has taken place, the cover is removed.
Diseases, pests and ways to control them
The flower's immunity is strong, but there are two main problems: black spot and rose aphid. You can fight both with a solution of laundry soap. For spot disease, fungicides are used, for aphids or other insects - insecticides.
Gloria Day rose is a flower that can make any garden even more beautiful. Even a beginner in floriculture is able to plant this plant on its site, and the result will exceed all expectations. It will be pleasant to go out in the evening, sit on a bench by the porch with a cup of tea and admire the luxurious flowering of Gloria Day, inhaling its delicious aroma.
