Rose Emilien Guillot - description of varietal shrub

Beautiful shrub roses Emilien can be a real treasure on the backyard. Without undue modesty, they say that this rose is a truly reigning representative of the species. It is quite difficult, if not impossible, to find another similar variety that has such luxurious bright orange blossoms. Thanks to its strong immunity, ease of cultivation and decorative qualities, Emilien Guillot has become a favorite of landscape designers.

Rose Emilien Guillot or MASemgui: short description, characteristics

The Emilien Guillot rose is a special species of a group of flowering crops. The main distinguishing feature is the formation of large inflorescences of an unusual color, starting from salmon-orange, which smoothly turns into fiery red. Against the backdrop of rich green foliage, the flowers seem incredible. The buds are characterized by a rounded shape. The flowers are cupped, they reach about 12 cm in diameter. The height of an adult bush, as a rule, ranges from 80-100 cm, and the width is 60-70 cm.

Note! During flowering, the bush exudes a rich aroma with pronounced fruity notes, as well as notes of rose oil and white pepper.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The Emilien Guillot variety attracts flower growers with luxurious delicate buds. The main advantages of the plant:

  • immunity to almost all diseases;
  • lush and long flowering (throughout almost the entire growing season, subject to agrotechnical rules);
  • pleasant aroma, especially in the morning and evening.

As for the shortcomings, gardeners note the difficulties in finding high-quality planting material, as well as the fear of moisture.

Note! The variety was first introduced to the public in 1997 and is dedicated to one of the heirs of the Guillot dynasty.

The use of roses in landscape design

The bushes are medium in size, so that the plants will look attractive in the garden, both in single plantings and in groups. Of these, hedges and various flower arrangements are often made out.

Growing a rose: how to plant it in open ground

The plant does not require any specific care. If before the gardener grew roses on his site, then in this case everything must be done by analogy.

When choosing a site for planting, you should give preference to well-lit and draft-protected areas, but at the same time there should always be a fresh stream of heat and air. It is impossible to form a bush in a lowland, since such areas accumulate moisture, which has a detrimental effect on the root system and the aerial part.

Important! The seedling should not grow in the shade of trees or other plants.

The soil should not be sandy, since its composition will not allow retaining moisture for a long time in summer, and will not be able to protect it from freezing in winter. It is recommended to give preference to loamy soil types. It is a mixture of fertile soil with a predominance of clay. It contains a high concentration of minerals, macro- and microelements.Clay soil is also suitable for planting, but first, its composition must be enriched with humus.

Appearance of a healthy rose cut

The plant grows rather quickly, so the planting pit should be rather large. If planting is planned for the spring, then it is recommended to dig a hole in the fall or at least 2 weeks before the expected planting date.

Note! If the soil meets the above requirements, then additional organic or mineral fertilizers are not required during planting.

Rose Emilien Guyot is a frost-resistant crop, therefore it is allowed to plant planting material in the fall. If a significant drop in temperature is possible in the region, then it is better to give preference to spring.

A high-quality cutting has at least 3-5 shoots. If there are more of them, then trimming is additionally carried out. The length of the shoot is formed by the number of buds growing on it. Before planting, the seedling is recommended to be kept in a special solution for 1-2 days, which stimulates growth and development.

Rose care

As mentioned earlier, the rose of Emilien Guyot has no fundamental differences in care and cultivation. In order to contemplate the lush and abundant flowering in your personal plot, you need to water the plant regularly, apply complex fertilizers, spud the near-stem circle, remove weeds and prevent the development of diseases and insect attacks.

Soon after planting, the main task of the gardener is to provide quality and regular watering. This is necessary for the plant to take root faster, the soil is more tightly attached to the root system. If after planting the soil has settled heavily, then it must be added to the required level. On hot days, the periosteal circle is additionally spud to retain moisture.

To form a lush bush with a symmetrical shape, it is necessary to carry out a short pruning. For three weeks after planting, the bush is watered with growth stimulants. The first buds must be pinched off so that the plant directs all the forces not to the formation of flowers, but to the development of the root system.

Preparing for winter

Like most other varieties of roses, Emilien also needs shelter for the winter. But first, you will need to carry out a set of preparatory measures. In September, pinch the tops of the shoots, apply potassium-phosphorus fertilizers and gradually reduce the frequency of watering.

An example of sheltering rose bushes for the winter

Before the onset of the first frost, sand is earthed approximately to a height of 50 cm. In the lower part of the aerial part of the bush, all leaves are removed and the shoots are powdered with ash. Unripe stems are removed.

Soon after the air temperature drops below zero, the branches are bent to the soil surface and fixed in different ways, for example, with curved metal rods. As a shelter, use polyethylene fiber or any other natural rags.

Important! In order to avoid the development of fungal diseases on warm winter days, the bushes are opened for ventilation.

They remove the shelter in the spring, when the probability of frost has passed, and the soil has begun to warm up. The branches are carefully straightened, sanitary pruning is carried out and nitrogen-containing fertilizers are applied.

Blooming rose

Under favorable weather and climatic conditions, the plant blooms in late May - early June. Quite rapidly, the green bush is covered with densely double inflorescences. The most favorable temperature regime is 24 ° С.

Flower propagation

The rose propagates by cuttings, dividing the bush and the seed method. To implement the last method you will need:

  1. Remove a slightly unripe fruit from the bush, since the skin of such seeds has not yet become coarse. Such planting material has good germination. Cut the bag with a sharp knife and remove the seeds.
  2. Take two cotton pads and moisten them liberally with hydrogen peroxide. Put seeds on one and cover with the other.
  3. The seeds are transferred to a damp cloth, which is placed in a plastic bag and sent to a cool room. Seeds in this state can be stored for 2 months, constantly observing the moisture content of the rags.
  4. At the end, it is necessary to prepare a soil mixture of peat and soil, spread it out in pots, where the seeds will be sown. Once they are germinated, they can be transplanted into open soil.

Diseases, pests of the rose and how to deal with them

In general, the variety has strong immunity and, subject to the rules of agricultural technology, the plant is practically not susceptible to the development of diseases and attacks of insects. However, if the rules of care are neglected, the following diseases can develop: fusarium rot, leaf spot, bark necrosis, powdery mildew and downy mildew (perontosporosis). Fungicides will help with treatment.

As for insects, both gnawing and sucking representatives can attack the bushes. If weevils, caterpillars, earwigs or leafworms are found on the leaves, they must be collected and destroyed, and then the plant must be treated with insecticidal solutions.

Note! In the cut, flowers are practically not used, since they fade rather quickly in the bouquet, losing their most beautiful decorative properties.

The Emilien Guillot rose is a flowering culture that deserves the attention of every grower. It is recommended to purchase planting material in special nurseries or from trusted people, since the name does not always correspond to what is sold in reality.
