Rose Bonica - what kind of floribunda is it?

The rose is considered to be the queen of flowers. Even the ancient Greeks highly appreciated the plant, decorating their gardens. For centuries, people have bred different varieties and still do not stop in their experiments. Relatively recently, in 1981, the Bonika shrub rose appeared, which has become a favorite of flower growers.

Characteristics of the variety

Bonica has several names: rose Bonica 82, MEIdomonac, Bonica Meidiland, Demon. It belongs to the floribunda group, which occupies an intermediate position between hybrid tea and polyanthus roses.

The description of Bonika as a ground cover rose suggests the possibility of planting it with a "flower carpet", which makes the variety popular in park design.

Rose bushes

Appearance

The height of the bush depends on the region of growth and averages 80-120 cm. The plant has small dark green leaves. Flowers 5 cm in diameter are colored pink (after burnout they turn white). 5-10 buds are formed on the branch. In place of the fallen flowers, orange and red fruits grow, which remain on the bush until spring.

Advantages and disadvantages

Gardeners note such positive aspects of the flower as:

  • frost resistance (cultivation in Siberia is possible);
  • long profuse flowering (throughout the summer, individual flowers appear until mid-autumn);
  • disease resistance;
  • versatility. Suitable for growing in plots, parks and containers.

Florists attribute the Bonika 82 rose to scrubs - frost-resistant and abundantly flowering shrubs that are actively grown in parks.

The disadvantages of the variety include:

  • the appearance of black spot;
  • loss of brightness due to burnout;
  • weak aroma;
  • small flowers (compensated by the number).

It is interesting!The variety has gained popularity among landscape designers who artificially form trees (trunks). Rose Boniki 82 create hedges and compositions with other flowers.

Growing features

To grow a bush with dense foliage and an abundance of flowers, you must adhere to the basic planting rules.

Selection of seedlings

It is recommended to choose seedlings with young annual roots. Plants with a dried root system are soaked for a day before planting. Grafted seedlings in pots with at least 3 shoots should be preferred.

Where and when to plant roses

In Russia, floribunda roses (including Bonika 82) are planted mainly in spring. In the south, planting is allowed in September and early October. The soil should be light, low acid, with a fertile layer of at least 50 cm.

For planting, open, well-ventilated sunny areas are selected (darkening negatively affects the density of the crown) without water accumulation.

Landing technology

Landing consists of the following stages:

  1. Dig a hole 40-50 * 40-50 * 40-50 cm.
  2. Fertilizer is applied, the earth is abundantly moistened.
  3. A seedling with an earthen lump is placed in the ground (the distance between plants is 50-80 cm).
  4. The voids are covered with earth.
  5. Moisten the soil (not at the root).
  6. Mulch with peat or straw.

Helpful information.Neighborhood with lavender will save flowers from aphids and other pests.

Floribunda rose care - Bonica 82

The plant needs attention. From spring to autumn, he needs to ensure proper watering, feeding and pruning.

Watering

The flower prefers weekly watering of 10 liters (if it is very hot, water it twice a week). In autumn, during natural precipitation, soil moistening ceases; in the dry autumn months, it is carried out every 10-12 days. The plant is watered early in the morning or in the evening after sunset.

Top dressing

Floribunda Bonica rose needs three feeding:

  • in early spring (after pruning, before the leaves appear), the bushes are fed with ammonium nitrate (30 g per 1 sq. m.);
  • in the summer during the formation of buds (with the same substance);
  • at the end of summer with potash fertilizers and superphosphate (30 g per 1 sq.m.).

Some growers, before the first flowering, introduce organic matter into the soil (mullein diluted in water in a ratio of 1:10.), After - mineral fertilizers.

Pruning rose bushes

Pruning

Bushes are pruned three times:

  • in the spring after planting (3-5 buds are left);
  • in summer (to stimulate flowering);
  • in the fall (remove old branches, leaves, unripe buds).

Preparing for winter

After sanitary pruning in the first half of October, the bushes are treated with 3% iron vitriol and 1% Bordeaux liquid. The base of the bush is sprinkled with sand. In early December, coniferous sawdust, dry leaves or peat are placed as mulch.

It is interesting.A popular way to prepare roses for winter is an air-dry shelter, in which a frame with a film is created to prevent plants from freezing.

Flowering features

Abundant flowering occurs at the beginning of summer, then the number of buds decreases. The rose blooms until the end of September. In order for more buds to set in the spring, the dried flowers are cut off in the fall (otherwise the plant's strength will go to the fruit setting).

Preparing cuttings

Reproduction

There are several ways to breed Boniki:

  1. Shoots: in the spring, the flexible shoot is immersed in the ground and buried in.
  2. Offspring: offspring appearing near the bush are separated after the appearance of their own roots.
  3. Seeds: the collected seeds are put into the refrigerator and sown in boxes in the spring. Emerging young shoots are planted in pots.
  4. Cuttings.

The most popular method is grafting. It includes the following stages:

  • cutting cuttings at an angle of 45 degrees. The length of the cuttings is 7-8 cm. They should have both buds and leaves;
  • daily soaking of cuttings in a root development stimulator;
  • placing in water or sand;
  • when roots appear - planting in the ground under a greenhouse.

Diseases

Due to the high humidity of the air, black spots may appear on the flower. You can get rid of them by trimming the affected parts. Another enemy of the plant - aphids are removed from the greenery by a stream of water. After that, the leaves and stems are treated with a soap-alcohol solution.

Among the relatives of roses, Bonika is considered one of the most stable and unpretentious. Even a novice gardener can cope with its cultivation. With proper care, the Bonika 82 rose bushes will adorn your garden for years to come.
