Rose Quadra - what is this variety

Quadra rose is a flower that was bred in Canada. This work was commissioned by the state. The breeders were required to develop a variety that is resistant even to the most severe frosts.

The variety has the following characteristics:

  • survival at -40 degrees even without shelter;
  • restoration of the stem and leaves after freezing;
  • due to competent crossing of various species, the variety has a high survival rate under the action of diseases;
  • flexible shoots capable of trailing along the support;

Rose of Quadra

  • there is no need to constantly prune branches, you can do this only occasionally;
  • the presence of up to 4 scarlet buds on 1 branch (up to 11 cm in diameter);
  • maximum height 1 meter 80 cm;
  • the maximum width of the rose bush is 1 m;
  • resistance not only to frost, but also during heavy rains.

Rosa Kvadro has an advantage over other varieties due to its resistance to negative environmental conditions, including diseases. There is no need for careful maintenance, it will grow even in the complete absence of human activity.

The plant lacks vigorous growth in height and width. Growth must be constantly controlled by pruning.

Attention! If a neat low bush is required for decorativeness, it is often necessary to prune the rose, as it grows in height and width.

Growing a flower

Growing a plant is possible both by seeds and seedlings. But competent gardeners recommend choosing the second path, since it is much easier to get a healthy plant using this method. The seeds will not always sprout, the process requires a lot of time and effort.

Spring is considered the most favorable time for disembarkation. It is better to choose the end of April or the beginning of May. The terrain for this can be absolutely any, since the flower is not afraid of frost, easily tolerates rain.

Landing is carried out according to the following rules:

  • a seedling is taken up to 20 cm in height;
  • the seedling is inserted into the ground, but not deeply, at a slight angle;
  • the ground should be loose, with good drainage, so that a sufficient amount of oxygen and moisture can enter;
  • water the seedling so often that the soil is not dry;
  • every 2 weeks add mineral or organic fertilizers in turn;
  • at first, the soil around should be covered with plastic wrap to create a greenhouse effect for the growth of new shoots;
  • periodically, the film is removed to allow the plant in the ground to be saturated with oxygen.

If new shoots have formed during the first month, you should not worry, the plant will survive.

Additional Information! It is better to buy a seedling in trusted stores in order to get exactly the variety that the gardener dreams of.

Plant care

The Canadian Quadra rose is unpretentious, but it is necessary to take care of it from time to time. This allows for frequent flowering, pleasing to the gardener's eye.

Watering rules and humidity

The flower is watered depending on the season. In spring and summer - up to 2 times a week. Watering should be moderate so that the water completely saturates the soil, but does not lead to rotting of the roots.In the fall, watered no more than 1 time per week. It is not recommended to do this in winter, as the ground freezes over.

Leaves can be moistened with a spray bottle. But often there is no need to do this. Suffice it 2-3 times a month during dry periods to keep the plant looking fresh.

Groundbait and soil quality

The plant survives even in heavy rain, but it is not recommended to plant it in swampy areas. The soil should be black earth, but with various impurities. If they are not enough, you can add it yourself. To do this, buy soil consisting of peat, sand, humus.

Pruning and replanting

Pruning is done 1 time in the spring and 1 time in the fall. It is not recommended to prune the plant more often, since it already grows extensively.

The flower is transplanted by completely digging out the root system. They watch carefully so that it is not damaged.

Important! If you want to create a daughter plant, 1 small seedling is sufficient.

Features of wintering a flower

Climbing rose Quadra survives even in the most severe frosts. For wintering, remove all branches on which there was flowering, leaving only the central ones. There is no need to cover the ground, since the root system will survive in frosts down to -40 degrees.

Blooming rose

The square begins to bloom in early summer. This is the active phase. Each time, new flowers appear, up to 4 buds on 1 branch. With the onset of cold weather in September, a dormant phase begins, which is extended until next summer.

When flowering, there is no need for specific care. The plant is periodically watered, moistened with a spray bottle, and fertilized.

Important! If there is no flowering, this means that the gardener is not taking good care of the rose or pests have appeared. This phenomenon is rare. A person is advised to water the flower more often, apply fertilizers.

Flower propagation

The park flower can be easily propagated by transplanting cuttings or seedlings. This is done in early spring, after the thaw.

It is enough for the gardener to get only a small part of the shoot that was cut out during pruning. It is planted in the ground, creating a greenhouse effect, periodically watered and fertilized.

After the first leaves appear, and the root system is sufficiently strengthened, the young rose can be transplanted to a permanent place.

For reference: in some catalogs and online stores, this variety is called the Quadra Vence rose.

Large buds

Diseases, pests and ways to control them

The flower is resistant to bacteria, viruses and fungi. Powdery mildew, aphids, midges, fungus, mites may occasionally appear. This is immediately apparent from the leaves, which begin to curl up and wither.

White, brown, red, brownish deposits may appear. In this case, it is recommended to use insecticides. They are used according to the description indicated in the package so as not to harm the flower itself.

In case of disease defeat, appropriate medicines are purchased and the flower is sprayed.

The Canadian Quadra rose is an artificial variety that was bred specifically for cold areas. She is unpretentious, does not require special care. Therefore, the plant can be obtained by every novice gardener. Despite the unpretentiousness, it is recommended to carry out care that will allow you to achieve constant flowering.
