Rose Pink Floyd (Pink Floyd) - characteristics of the variety

Roses are flowers of amazing beauty that are in great demand. They look good in landscape design on plots, harmoniously combined with other colors. Roses are used to make up gorgeous bouquets that retain their freshness for a long time.

Rose Pink Floyd (Pink FloiD): history of origin and characteristics

In 2004, a new hybrid tea variety of Ecuadorian roses called Pink Floid rose was introduced in the Netherlands. The name is given in honor of the popular group Pink Floid. Having a bright attractive pink color, closer to the color of fuchsia, she immediately won love among connoisseurs. A bud of an ideal shape, consisting of 30-35 petals up to 10 cm in diameter, attracts with its undeniable beauty.

What is Pink Floyd rose

The bushes reach a height of 120-125 cm. One to three flowers can grow on one shoot. Leaves of a standard dark green glossy color. The aroma of flowers is delicate sweetish with oriental notes of perfume.

For your information! Flowering occurs from early summer to October.

Among the clear advantages of the Pink Floyd rose variety stand out:

  • increased frost resistance. The plant calmly withstands a drop in temperature to −20 ° C in the absence of additional insulation;
  • high resistance to pests;
  • long flowering period;
  • safety after cutting reaches up to 2 weeks;
  • pronounced delicate aroma;
  • dense and large buds, allowing you to make a gorgeous bouquet of even several flowers.

The disadvantages include the need to cover seedlings in winter in areas with particularly low temperatures and the high cost of this variety of roses.

Note! In landscaping, the Pink Floyd rose takes center stage due to its brightness. When decorating a plot with this variety of roses, it is worth considering this and combining it with flowers of calmer and more delicate tones.

Planting and growing

Saplings Pink Floid roses are planted in open ground in spring at temperatures from 15 ºС. A landing site should be selected sufficiently lit with shade in the afternoon, without drafts, but with good access to fresh air. The best soil for planting is loamy soil with neutral acidity.

Rose seeds

Ready-made seedlings of good quality can be purchased or grown independently from seeds. To do this, the seeds are laid out on a napkin or a piece of cloth, moistened with hydrogen peroxide and covered with the same layer of cloth on top. Until germination, the seeds are kept in the refrigerator. And then, in a germinated form, they are planted in a pot.

Important! The most suitable temperature for growing seedlings at home is 18-20 ºС.

The process of planting in open ground consists in choosing a place, digging a hole at least 50 cm deep and 60-70 cm in diameter. Then all the leaves and shoots on the seedling are cut off. When planting, it is necessary to deepen the growth point by a few centimeters. After that, watering and fertilization are carried out.

Care methods

Describing how to care for the plant is one of the most important points. This variety of roses feels good in a humid climate, therefore, if there is a lack of water, periodic watering is required. During flowering, you need to water at least 1 time a week at the rate of 15-20 liters of water per bush. In spring and autumn, it is enough to water once every 10-12 days. If the soil around the bushes has been mulched, this will slow down the evaporation of moisture and eliminate the growth of weeds.

Important! During active growth and flowering, it is necessary to apply fertilizers (potassium-phosphorus and magnesium), as well as nitrogen at least twice a season. Fertilizing with humus after each watering will have a beneficial effect on crop growth.

Pruning is done in spring and fall. In the spring, shoots of up to 6-8 buds are removed from the bush (in the first spring up to 2-3 buds), in the fall all buds and wilted leaves are cut off. In areas with colder climates, the bushes are cut to a height of 20-25 cm and sheltered from the cold with coniferous branches, fabric or plastic material.

Shelter for the winter

Bloom

The flowering culture lasts all summer and part of autumn - from June to October. During this period, good watering is necessary (at least 1 time per week) and fertilization, which are significantly reduced after flowering stops. If the plant does not bloom well, then several reasons may contribute to this:

  • unsuitable soil composition;
  • insufficient watering;
  • lack of lighting;
  • damage to the root system during planting;
  • the presence of diseases or pests.

Having found out the cause of the problem, it is easy to eliminate it by additional fertilization, increased watering or transplanting a seedling.

Reproduction of culture

Pink Floyd rose variety propagates by cuttings. To do this, you need to choose a shoot with good buds, on which the buds are cut, all leaves are removed, except for paired ones.

Note! The shoot is cut off at a distance of three buds from the upper cut.

Rose stalk

After the performed procedure, the lower part is treated with a growth stimulator for the roots, planted in moist soil at a temperature of 18-20 ºС and covered with a film material until engraftment. It usually takes 20-25 days.

Diseases and pests

The most common diseases of Pink Floyd rose are black spot and powdery mildew, which must be dealt with by treatment with special copper-containing solutions. Pests such as caterpillars and aphids can also significantly damage the crop and even lead to its death. Their destruction is helped by spraying with soap or garlic-onion solution, as well as processing with special chemical compounds.

Black spot on the leaves

Pink Floyd is a rose that requires special care and attention, but in return it will become a real decoration of the garden and will delight you with a delicate sweetish aroma. Bouquets made from such flowers will overshadow other varieties.
