Rose Antik (Antike 89) - what is this variety
This variety was obtained in the German nursery of V. Kordes. This happened in 1988. The plant can be found under the names Antique Rose, Antique or Antique 89.
Brief description and characteristics
This is a very original variety that has dense double flowers of an unusual two-color color. Large inflorescences reach 13 cm in diameter and are cupped. In the center there is a twisted center. The plant resembles old English roses. It has white-pink buds.
The plant perfectly tolerates sunny weather and is resistant to moisture. Flowering is abundant and continues throughout the summer. The flowers are arranged one at a time or form inflorescences of 5 pieces. The rose can be cut.
The culture is characterized by resistance to disease.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
A key characteristic of the variety is considered to be beautiful dense double flowers. They are very large. A distinctive feature of the buds is the cupped shape. Other virtues of culture include:
- powerful bushes;
- excellent frost resistance;
- high resistance to fungi;
- resistance to sun and precipitation;
- the possibility of re-flowering.
Of the minuses, the low growth rate of the shrub is distinguished. The plant gains strength for a long time. This is especially true for the cool climate and unfavorable soil composition.
Use in landscape design
Park rose Antik 89 is considered an ideal option for vertical gardening of beds. It serves as a decoration for any wall or fence. At the same time, the culture has thick and hard shoots that are not suitable for creating arched structures.
Growing a flower: how to plant it in open ground
For a culture to grow and develop normally, it needs to be provided with full and high-quality care. However, first of all, it is necessary to competently carry out planting work.
For planting a crop, it is worth taking ready-made seedlings, which are sold in specialized nurseries. The use of the seed method does not allow preserving the varietal characteristics of the crop.
It is recommended to plant bushes in spring or autumn. In the first case, the procedure should be carried out in April. For autumn planting, this should be done several weeks before the onset of frost.
Seat selection
For climbers, areas that are open from the south or southeast side are well suited. They can also be planted in the southwest.It is important that the duration of daylight hours is at least 6 hours.
How to prepare the soil and flower for planting
The rose needs a fertile and loose soil. The best option would be loam with a slightly acidic reaction.
In the selected place, the soil must be dug up. If the soil is unsuitable, it must be completely replaced. For this, the deepening is made twice as deep. Before planting, the seedling needs to be inspected, cut the roots and soaked in a growth stimulator.
Planting procedure step by step
To carry out planting work, you need to perform the following steps:
- Prepare a hole 50 cm deep.
- When planting a rose in clay soil, you need to make a drainage layer of 15-20 cm.When using sandy soil, drainage is done with a layer of 10 cm.
- The roots of the plant must be spread in the hole and covered with earth.
- Water the plant and fill up the settled soil.
- Cover the soil with a mulch layer.
Plant care
For normal growth, the culture requires quality care. It should include timely watering, pruning, feeding.
Watering rules and humidity
Climbing roses are easy to care for. Young crops need to be watered quite often. From the second year, the number of procedures can be reduced. In this case, watering must be made more abundant.
Top dressing and soil quality
Plants should be fertilized 4-5 times during the growing season. In this case, it is worth using organics and minerals. It is usually recommended to alternate such substances.
Pruning and replanting
Climber needs systematic pruning. The main lashes need to be shortened by a third, and the side ones should be trimmed to the third bud. Old and dry branches should be cut off near the ground. This pruning helps the plant grow rapidly.
Features of wintering a flower
When growing a rose in cold climates, it must be covered for the winter. To do this, in the spring, the lashes are laid on a straw base and covered in 2 layers with non-woven material. In the spring, the shelter must be gradually removed.
Blooming rose
The plant is distinguished by abundant and lush flowering. This allows you to actively apply culture in landscape design.
A period of activity and rest
The culture is considered to be re-blooming. The first rich bloom is followed by the second. For this you need to carry out the correct pruning. The second wave is characterized by no less lush buds. With the arrival of autumn cold weather, a period of rest begins.
What to do if it does not bloom
The lack of flowering can be due to such factors:
- wrong choice of landing site;
- violation of the irrigation regime;
- deficiency of nutrients in the soil.
Flower propagation
Roses can be propagated by cuttings, grafting or layering. The simplest and most affordable way is considered to be cuttings.
For the procedure, from June to August, you need to harvest cuttings. They are taken from fading or flowering branches.
Each cutting should have 2 or more internodes. To begin with, you need to cut off the lower leaves from the cutting, and cut the upper leaves to the middle. After that, it is necessary to bury the cuttings in sand or a mixture with soil, cover the planting material with a jar and periodically moisten the soil.
Diseases, pests and ways to control them
The culture can suffer from attacks of ticks, aphids, thrips. There is also a risk of injury from a rose sawfly or leaf roll. Folk recipes or insecticides help to cope with parasites.
Climbing rose Antik is distinguished by its decorative appearance and resistance to major pathologies. In order for the plant to bloom as long as possible, it needs to be watered and fed on time.
