Use in landscape design

Group plantings on the lawn look very impressive. Considering the considerable height of the shoots of the Coral Supreme peony, it can be planted as a low hedge or used to decorate the space along the garden paths.

Growing and planting features in open ground

Peonies are very unpretentious to care for, but the success of growing largely depends on the correct preparation for planting and its implementation in accordance with all the rules.

Herbaceous peony Coral Supreme is mainly propagated by dividing the bush, and planting, respectively, is carried out either with a full-fledged part of the root system or with root cuttings. The latter method involves the use of a part of the root as planting material.

Note! The planting technology is the same in both cases, but the preparation of the plant for planting is different.

Disembarkation time and place

Before you start directly planting peonies in the ground, you should think about two important points:

  • choice of location. All peonies are light-loving plants. It is best to choose an open, free area with deeply cultivated soil for them. Places of close occurrence of groundwater and flooded with thawed spring waters should be avoided;
  • determination of terms. For peonies, autumn planting is more preferable. In a temperate climate, it starts at the end of September. This makes it possible for the plant to take root and get stronger before the onset of cold weather.

Important! The timing of planting peonies in the ground is determined taking into account the peculiarities of the climate. In cold regions, these works should be started 2-3 weeks earlier.

Soil and flower preparation

For optimal development, peonies need a nutritious, permeable soil with a high humus content. If the soil on the site is heavy or clayey, sand or deciduous soil should be added.

The features of plant preparation depend on what planting material is used. If you take a part of the root system of a large plant obtained by dividing, then the preparation process involves a number of actions:

  1. Removal of dried and damaged roots.
  2. Flushing to remove old soil.
  3. Soaking in water with the addition of root or similar preparation.
  4. Pruning stems at a height of 15-20 cm.

Preparation of root cuttings consists in processing the cuts with charcoal powder. It is also desirable to hold the exposure in a growth stimulant solution.

Important!Only completely healthy planting material can be used. It is best to purchase it from a garden center and inspect it thoroughly before purchasing.

Landing

Correct planting of peonies in the ground is the key to their full development in the future. Given the fact that they have been growing in one place for several years, it is worth taking a very responsible approach to the planting process.

Planting is carried out by root cuttings

The process is carried out step by step and consists of several sequential actions:

  1. Landing holes are dug 50 × 50 cm in size, the distance between which should be at least 70-90 cm, since the plantings remain in one place for several years.
  2. Rotted cow dung or humus is poured into the bottom of each depression with a layer of 15-10 cm, and then the same layer of garden soil.
  3. 40-50 g of superphosphate and 20-25 g of potassium salt are added to the extracted soil and mixed.
  4. A mixture of soil with fertilizers is poured onto the prepared bottom of the pit with a cone, and a plant is placed on it, carefully straightening the roots.
  5. The plantings are covered with the rest of the soil, watered abundantly, the resulting hole is sprinkled with earth.

Note! After planting, it is recommended to mulch the surface around the plants. This will prevent moisture loss, which is essential for rooting.

Seed propagation

This method is used very rarely due to the fact that the flowering of plants grown from seeds has to wait at least 4 years. In addition, sowing and further caring for peony seedlings require some knowledge and effort.

Peonies grown from seed do not inherit all the qualities of the mother plant. For this reason, the application of the method is relevant only when carrying out breeding work. In this case, artificial pollination is carried out between specially selected specimens to obtain seed.

Outdoor care

In order to successfully grow peonies, especially such elite varieties as Coral Supreme, they should be provided with the necessary care.It includes several mandatory points:

  • regular watering as the soil dries up. At the end of summer, several abundant watering is carried out to stimulate the growth of roots and replacement buds;
  • 5 dressings are made per season. In early spring, they are fed with mineral fertilizers (30 g of nitrogen and 20 g of potassium and superphosphate). The second time, nitrogen is introduced during the growing season, the third is a mullein solution (1/5) during the budding period, the fourth is a complex mineral fertilizer at the beginning of flowering. The last feeding is carried out at the end of flowering, using phosphorus and potash fertilizers;
  • a day after each watering, the soil around the plantings is loosened. If the site is mulched, there is no such need;
  • taking into account the susceptibility of the Coral Supreme peony to disease and pests, preventive spraying is carried out several times per season.

The set of activities is quite laborious, but the beautiful and fragrant peony bloom is worth the effort.

Peony Blossom Coral Supreme

The beautiful flowering period of this peony variety begins at the end of April and lasts about 12-15 days. This is the peak of plant activity, after which it gradually passes into a dormant period, preparing for the winter cold.

Care during and after flowering

During the period of budding and flowering, peonies need especially reverent care. Care should be taken that the soil does not dry out, and timely abundant watering should be carried out. Also, fertilization should not be neglected at the stage of bud formation, during flowering and after its end.

Important!To prevent the plant from spending extra energy on the formation of seeds, wilted inflorescences must be removed.

Lack of flowering

Peony Supreme may not bloom for several reasons. Basically, they are associated either with mistakes in care, or with improper preparation for planting.

Regular watering is required during flowering.

There are several main points:

  • incorrect soil composition;
  • lack of regular watering;
  • lack of sunlight;
  • neglect of top dressing;
  • disease or pest infestation.

If the peony does not bloom, you should analyze all the points and take the necessary measures. In some cases, there may be a need for a transplant to another place.

Peonies after flowering

The end of flowering period is a good time to transplant peonies for propagation purposes. As a rule, they use the method of dividing the bush and planting parts using conventional technology.

In the fall, before the onset of cold weather, the shoots are cut off. The root collar is spud and a layer of leaves is poured on top. In cold climates, it is recommended to additionally cover the plantings with non-woven material.

Diseases pests

The most common diseases of peonies are gray rot, powdery mildew and cladosporiosis. Plants are often attacked by aphids and ants.

Note!Ants and aphids are especially dangerous for peonies. They suck the juice out of the buds, which causes them to dry out and not bloom.

Inflorescences suffer from diseases

At the first signs of a deterioration in the appearance of a flower, it is necessary to spray not only the diseased plant, but also all the neighboring ones. Preventive treatment should also be carried out.

Peony Coral Supreme is a wonderful representative of the world of flowers. This rare and exquisite variety will not only decorate the garden, but also fill it with a magical aroma. The plant needs the most ordinary care, but its flowering will definitely delight flower lovers.
