Geranium is a plant that is found on almost every windowsill. It has been popular for many decades. A wide variety of geranium species have been bred, which differ from each other not only in color, but also in the shape of the buds, the number of petals and even the type of leaves.

Geranium or crane - what kind of plant is it?

Geranium (Zhuravelnik) is a genus that belongs to the Geranium family. This family includes both grasses and shrubs - about 400 species. The name of the genus comes from the Greek words "geranion, geranios", which means "crane" in translation. Translated from German, it is called "stork's beak" because the fruits of geraniums resemble the beak of a crane.

  • leaves are located on cuttings;
  • leaves can be palmate-separate or palmate-lobed, sometimes pinnate;
  • most often the leaves are covered with soft villi;
  • the color of the flowers is the most diverse;
  • the fruit is a box.

The Geranium family includes another species - Pelargonium. They are more often grown at home as potted crops. Varietal pelargoniums are highly prized by indoor plant lovers.
