Rose Mondial (Mondial) - description and varieties

This variety is called wedding. Spectacular and at the same time delicate rose attracts constant attention. The article describes the Mondial rose, the features of growing and caring for it.

Brief description of Mondial rose

Rosa Mondial is a hybrid tea variety intended for cutting. Bred by German breeders working in the Kordes nursery. The variety appeared at the end of the 20th century. Its name can be translated as "global", "worldwide". Mondial is successfully grown both in warm climates and in the middle lane.

Rose of super-premium class Mondial

The goblet bud is composed of 40-45 slightly ruffled, creamy white petals. There is a slight green tint at the base of the petal. The aroma is weak, with notes of citrus and cedar. Each flower on a bush lives up to 14 days, about the same will stand in a cut. In the middle lane, the Mondial bush reaches 60-80 cm in height and about 50 cm in diameter. The foliage is dark green, of medium density. Shoots are strong, erect. There are few thorns (4-8 on each stem).

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The variety has its pros and cons.

Pros:

  • Frost resistance, does not require shelter for the winter.
  • Resistance to temperature extremes and other adverse conditions.
  • Long bloom.
  • Disease and pest resistance

Minuses:

  • The stems become tough without regular pruning.
  • The increased humidity of the soil and air can provoke the fall of flowers.

Use in landscape design

In warm climates, the bush is tall and needs support. It is customary to plant it along hedges or as a background. Mondial rose bushes look great in groups and single plantings.

Varieties of varieties

The variety is quite variable, at present, breeders have bred several of its varieties.

  • Classic white rose Mondial. Its white buds are beautiful when cut and on the bush. An even milky-white color of the petals at the base turns into a light olive at the edges. The buds are dense, long cut.
  • Rose Pink Mondial (Pink Mondiale) has pale pink large buds. A sign of the freshness of the Pink Mondial rose is the light olive border around the petals. The homeland of the variety is Ecuador.
  • Gray Mondial (Mondial Gray). The original color of the petals of this Dutch variety attracts a lot of attention. It seems that a Photoshop master was working on the buds. Tall, up to half a meter, peduncles bear large gray buds with a lilac center.
  • Rose Fantasy Mondial. This variety is the product of German breeders. Large flowers are collected from 50 pink petals. When moving from the base to the edge of the petal, its color brightens.

Growing a flower in the open field

It is preferable to plant a rose in open ground in mid-May, when the threat of frost has passed and the soil warms up enough. Planting material should be selected grafted, Dutch or Russian production.

The ideal place for planting is a flat, draft-protected area with loose fertile soil (black earth or loam). Do not plant roses in places with close groundwater and poor drainage.Daylight should be diffused, direct sunlight is allowed only in the morning and evening.

Note! Rose prefers nutritious, slightly acidic soil, pH 6-6.5. The addition of peat or manure will help to increase the acidity, and to reduce it - lime or ash.

To plant a rose correctly, you need to do the following:

  1. In the chosen place, prepare a landing hole with a depth and diameter of at least 60 cm. The hole is needed so that an earthen lump with roots fits freely in it.
  2. A 10 cm thick drainage layer is laid on the bottom of the pit. It can be expanded clay, pebbles, shell rock.
  3. A 20 cm thick layer of nutrient soil is poured over the drainage, mixed with 20 g of superphosphate and 20 g of potassium sulfate.
  4. Place the seedling in the prepared hole.
  5. Spread out the roots carefully.
  6. Cover the root system with soil.
  7. Pour abundantly with water at room temperature.
  8. Mulch with peat, bark, sawdust.

Important! In order for the rose to give the maximum number of flowering shoots, the root collar should be deepened when planting.

Plant care

Mondial, like any rose, requires careful and attentive care. In hot summer, it needs to be watered every 2-3 days. In rainy weather, watering is reduced. Loosening and mulching will help preserve moisture in the soil.

Fertilizers are applied in several stages:

  1. In the spring, when the buds begin to swell, nitrogen-containing inorganic and organic fertilizers are applied. Nitrogen is needed for a plant to gain green mass, active growth.
  2. In summer, complex fertilizers are applied that support flowering. You can apply liquid fertilizers for foliar feeding.
  3. In the fall, after the end of flowering, it is imperative to apply phosphorus-potassium fertilizer. This will help the rose prepare for winter and lay the groundwork for next season's flowering.

Note! It is recommended to alternate fertilizing with organic and inorganic fertilizers.

Pruning and replanting

Pruning is carried out twice a season:

  1. The main pruning takes place in October. Non-lignified shoots are cut to solid wood. All leaves, small, diseased branches are removed.
  2. Sanitary pruning is carried out in the spring after the winter insulation has been removed. Brown, rotten or dried branches should be removed.

Pruning rose bushes to prolong flowering

Features of wintering a flower

To prepare rose bushes for winter, they begin with pruning. Then they spud the root circle and mulch with a layer of compost 10 cm thick. After the average daily temperature drops below zero degrees, the bushes are covered with spruce branches. The use of this material is justified by the fact that it perfectly conserves heat, while the air under it does not stagnate, the plant does not rot.

Blooming rose

The main purpose of a rose on the site is to decorate it with your own flowers, and it is for this that it is planted. This variety begins to bloom in June and usually lasts more than three months.

In the summer, when the rose blooms, it needs a sufficient amount of moisture and nutrients. During this period, be sure to carry out:

  • weeding;
  • loosening;
  • mulching with hay, peat, bark, sawdust;
  • watering;
  • top dressing with potash fertilizers or chicken droppings;
  • fungicide treatment as a prophylaxis.

After the end of the first wave of flowering, the rose is pruned so that it can grow new shoots and bloom again by autumn. First of all, all wilted buds are cut off, then too long shoots are shortened, the bush is given a harmonious shape.

Note! A branch cut is made above the leaf, while it must be borne in mind that the young shoot will grow in the same direction as the leaf over which the cut is made.

What to do if the rose does not bloom

The main reasons for the lack of flowering:

  1. The bush is too young. In the first year after planting, the rose does not bloom. Even if it is picking up buds, it is better to cut them off, allowing the plant to form a more powerful root system.
  2. Unsuitable place: the rose is dark, cold, humid.
  3. Incorrect, too much or no trimming.Faded buds left on the bush inhibit the development of new ones.
  4. Root shoots. It needs to be removed, the rose is wasting energy.
  5. Diseases such as bacterial burns.
  6. The plant has aged, requires rejuvenation.
  7. Incorrect feeding. An overfed rose will not bloom, as all the nutrition goes into the leaves and shoots. With a lack of nutrition, the plant does not have the strength to bloom.

Flower propagation

Reproduction of roses is carried out by layering, dividing the bush, cuttings. Seed propagation in this case will not preserve varietal characteristics. Information is given in the table.

Diseases, pests and ways to control them

Rose variety Mondial is resistant to fungal and bacterial diseases. But you shouldn't neglect prevention. During the growing season, roses are treated with fungicides 2-3 times.

With pests that infect roses, and this is a spider mite, scale insect, aphids, you can fight with home methods and purchased drugs. Soap solution, turpentine will cope well with a small amount of parasites, if there are a lot of pests, the bush must be treated with pesticides.

Note!Marigolds planted next to rose bushes will protect from pests and fungi.

Mondial roses are actively used by florists. It is not for nothing that this variety is called the "rose of brides". Delicate white buds with a double edge embody the bride's tenderness and emphasize her beauty.
