Why the Decembrist does not bloom - reasons

The Decembrist, or Schlumberger, is a beautiful indoor flower known for its unusual flowering. The flower begins to bloom in December, for which it got its name. The flower buds resemble lilies in shape, the surface of the stems, like that of cacti, has segments in the form of segments.

Flowering process of the Decembrists: possible violations

During the cultivation of the Decembrist, you can face many problems: falling flowers, reddening of the segments. However, the most exciting question for flower growers is why the Decembrist does not bloom?

The causes of all problems and diseases that arise during the life of a room Decembrist are:

  • improper care or lack thereof;
  • unfavorable growing conditions;
  • diseases;
  • pests.

Schlumberger flower

Important! Diseases and pests appear, first of all, due to improperly created growing conditions, infected planting material and, in general, errors in care.

Diseases

Schlumberger falls ill with fungal infections: pythium and late blight. The disease infects not only the plant itself, but also the soil. The first sign of infection is the fall of segments on the stems and the sluggish state of the buds. Then the whole bush begins to lighten and tarnish. Fungal infections are treated by spraying the ground part of the bush and treating the soil with solutions of special preparations: "Topaz", "Vitaros" and "Maxim",

Fusarium is another fungal disease that affects the root collar and roots. It lives in soil and infects the plant through cuts and wounds. The disease cannot be cured, so it is necessary to get rid of not only the flower, but also the pot in which it grew.

Important! To prevent the plant from contracting infectious diseases, after each work, it is necessary to disinfect the garden tools.

Pests

Schlumberger suffers from attacks from the following pests:

  • spider mite;
  • mealy worms;
  • shield.

A spider mite can be seen with the naked eye. It is a small yellow, red or brown insect. It appears at low air humidity and feeds on the succulent part of the plant. At the first symptoms of a tick, you need to rinse the top of the bush with soapy water. After that, cover the pot and flower with plastic for a week. Repeat the procedure at least two times.

The mealybug has a pale pinkish oval-shaped body with a white coating. The body length is no more than 7 millimeters. If white mucus appears on the surface of the stems, then the mealy worms are on the bush. They are disposed of by insecticide treatment. The procedure is carried out once a week.

The scale insects feed on the juices of the segments, which is why they begin to dry out and fall off. A neglected state can destroy a flower completely. It is necessary to clean the stems of the bush with a solution of "Tanker" or "Karbofos".

Humidity

For healthy growth and bright flowering for the Decembrist, increased room humidity is needed. Dry air provokes drying of segments and buds, their subsequent falling off. The spider mite also loves low humidity and begins to develop and multiply on the surface of the bush.

To increase the humidity level, you need to regularly spray the bush with water from a spray bottle. In winter, due to artificial heating, the humidity decreases, so you need to put a container with water next to the pot.

Additional Information. For a quick increase in humidity in winter, it is effective to lay out a damp cloth on the hot heating pipe.

Air temperature

At low temperatures, the bush is overcooled, which leads to wilting and growth arrest. The stems do not develop, the flower stops blooming. The air temperature should not fall below 15 degrees. If the bush is very cold, you cannot immediately raise the temperature sharply. This is done gradually, each time increasing the temperature by a couple of degrees.

Additional Information. In addition to the low temperature, it is necessary to rid the flower of cold drafts that interfere with the flowering and growth of the bush.

Root problems

About why the Decembrist flower does not bloom when leaving at home, it will let you know the condition of its roots. When moisture stagnates in the soil, rotting of the root system and the dying off of the bush begins. Growth slows down, the bush withers, foliage fades, segments and buds fall off. If you run the problem, blackening and mold will begin at the base of the stems. The Decembrist cannot only bloom, but simply gain growth.

The flower does not bloom for many reasons

It is very important to properly care for the bush and water it with soft, not cold water. After the procedure, loosening of the soil is mandatory.

Incorrect transplant

Proper planting is essential for healthy growth and flowering. Before transplanting a flower, you need to choose the correct size pot. It should not be cramped so that when the root system grows, there is not a lack of space for roots.

It is important to use a special potting soil when planting. The substrate can be purchased in a specialized store ready-made, or you can make it yourself. It is necessary to mix fertile loose soil, humus, rotted foliage, peat. For good breathability, it is also recommended to add river sand.

Important! The main reason why the flower stops blooming after transplantation is damage to its root system. If the roots are damaged, the whole bush will suffer.

Other possible problems

Lack of light and feeding also leads to a stop of flowering. In the first year, the flower especially needs mineral and organic fertilizing.

The reason for the lack of flowering may be the introduction of nitrogen-containing fertilizers during flowering. Nitrogen helps plant leaves and stems to grow, but prevents bud formation.

What to do if the Decembrist does not grow and does not bloom: folk methods

Sometimes the question arises of what to do if the Decembrist does not bloom. In such situations, it is not always possible to use special drugs to combat the problem, then you can use folk methods. They will help get rid of pests and make the plant bloom.

In order for the Decembrist to bloom, you need to properly care for him

An infusion of onions saves from the scale insect. It is not difficult to make it. A large onion is finely chopped and poured with 300 milliliters of water. The solution is infused for 4-5 hours. A cotton pad is moistened in an onion infusion and the affected areas on the sheets are wiped.

To combat mealybugs, an infusion of garlic is used. A few cloves of garlic need to be kneaded and filled with half liters of boiling water. Leave the solution for 7 hours. After that, the affected foliage is wiped with a brush dipped in the solution. Olive oil also saves from worms, with which a cotton pad is moistened and a bush is wiped. The oil nourishes and heals the affected areas.

If the Decembrist does not grow and bloom, first of all it is necessary to pay attention to the conditions in which the flower is contained. With proper care and timely preventive measures, the flower will delight for a long time with its bright flowering and healthy appearance.
