Why anthurium does not bloom at home and what to do

The exotic flower Anthurium has a high decorative effect, which is why it is very popular in indoor floriculture. The people called him male happiness. Under natural conditions, the flower grows in tropical rainforests, therefore, high humidity is required to grow it. However, anthurium can often suffer from it, because of which flowering will not occur for a long time. Other reasons why anthurium does not grow well and does not bloom are described below.

Time and duration of anthurium flowering at home

The first time after planting in a pot, an exotic plant blooms in the second or third year of life. Usually, annually in indoor conditions, anthurium begins to release its inflorescences in the second half of February. The last bud blooms in early April. On average, a plant should bloom for 1.5 to 2 months. However, in some cases, this period may vary due to varietal characteristics and conditions of detention.

Due to temperature changes, the flower does not bloom either.

Anthurium does not bloom, but only releases leaves: reasons

There can be a lot of reasons why anthurium does not bloom at home. Therefore, before undertaking a treatment for a bush and making it bloom again, you should find the true problem due to which the bush cannot release buds.

Pot too big

Since anthurium has a weak root system, it is difficult for it to obtain nutrients from the soil. Therefore, the large container in which the bush is grown complicates this process even more. In this case, until the roots of the flower grow and fill the entire space of the container, it will not bloom.

Watering errors

One of the main reasons why anthurium does not bloom at home is improper watering. This includes the irregularity of the procedure, as well as the use of poor-quality irrigation water.

Note! Cold chlorinated tap water often provokes root rot, from which the bush stops blooming and the foliage stops drying.

Unsuitable temperature

The next reason why anthurium does not bloom for a long time is the unsuitable temperature in the room. During the growing season, the temperature regime should be in the range from 19 ° C to 23 ° C. It is very important not to allow sharp jumps in these indicators and not to lower them below 15 ° C, otherwise the plant will go into hibernation.

Note! The bush is deliberately put into hibernation after flowering so that it can gain strength. In other cases, the required temperature is maintained in the room.

Insufficient moisture

For tropical plants such as anthurium, moisture values are very important. If they fall below 60%, then the plant inhibits its life processes.

Deficiency or excess of essential trace elements in the soil

In certain periods of anthurium development, the content and dosage of trace elements in the fertilizer should change. Otherwise, problems arise.An overabundance of nutrients can also affect the lack of flowering, as the plant may instead begin to grow only deciduous mass.

Drafts

Due to high humidity and high temperatures, stuffiness can come in the room, so ventilation will be required. However, their frequency, especially during cooler periods, can harm the plant. It is also worth not allowing strong drafts that will tear the inflorescences and leaves from the bush.

Transplant errors

Anthurium does not bloom and does not grow also due to improper transplantation. This procedure is considered difficult and requires experience. Often, mechanical damage is inflicted on the root system and shoots, through which infections subsequently penetrate.

Important! Do not use contaminated garden tools when transplanting.

Diseases and parasites

Due to improper care, pests and diseases often appear on the bush. Visually, such a plant begins to change color and wither. Inflorescences do not form, and the leaves curl and fall off.

The most common diseases affecting anthurium include:

  • rust of leaves;
  • root rot;
  • powdery mildew;
  • septoria.

Of pests, flowering is affected by:

  • mealybug;
  • spider mite;
  • aphid;
  • shield.

Improper care can interfere with blooming and drying of foliage.

Other possible problems in the flowering of anthurium

The flower may not bloom for other reasons. In such cases, the first thing to do is to review the correctness of the care measures.

Flowers dry up and fall

In this case, dry air, lack of watering and strong drafts may be the reason. The appearance of a spider mite or aphid also has such signs.

Greening flowers or pistil

A change in the color of the pistil to greenish tints can occur due to the wrong composition and dosage of fertilizers. It is not worthwhile to independently select preparations for dressing, but to purchase ready-made mineral fertilizers specifically for anthurium.

Note! Another reason for this behavior is the lack of natural light.

Does not bloom or grow

In fact, all of the above points are the reasons for the lack of growth and flowering of anthurium:

  • improper watering with poor-quality water;
  • poor lighting;
  • temperature jumps;
  • dry air;
  • the appearance of pests;
  • disease damage;
  • lack or excess of dressings.

In order for the anthurium to bloom again, you need to feed it regularly.

How to make anthurium bloom: tricks

Florists have several effective tricks to support bud formation after anthurium blooms.

Finished fertilizers

For regular feeding, the following preparations are suitable:

  • "Uniflor Bud" - rich in phosphorus and potassium, helps to prolong flowering;
  • Azalea contains a high level of nitrogen, which is necessary in the first stage of plant growth;
  • Kemira Lux is suitable for year-round use.

Folk remedies

If the anthurium stopped blooming, what to do and can you do with folk methods? At home, it is useful to fertilize anthurium with organic matter. To do this, you can use:

  • mullein. They are fertilized at any time of the year, dissolving 1 tbsp. a spoonful of fertilizer in 1 liter of water;

It is worth familiarizing yourself with the rules for keeping a bush at home in advance, so as not to face problems in the future.
