Pelargonium Fischers Appleblossom - planting and care
Content:
The seeds of wild flowers from the Geraniaceae family, to which the genus Pelargonium belongs, were first brought to Europe by sailors from ships that went to India and made stops in South African ports. Of these, flower lovers who are fond of ornamental plants have created several hundreds of various varieties and hybrids of geraniums and pelargoniums, many of which have gained worldwide fame. These flowers include varietal pelargoniums of the Appleblossom species (Apple blossom).
Appleblossom flowers
The history of Appleblossom pelargonium begins in 1870, when in France, by crossing zonal and garden plants, rose-like flowers with petals collected in double inflorescences were obtained. They gained fame due to the fact that they began to be used to create bouquets and as boutonnieres. The noble color of the inflorescences with all sorts of shades of pink has become a distinctive feature when describing pelargoniums by Aplebloss rosebud.
Plants of the Pelargonium species Appleblossom Rosebud are perennials with branching herbaceous stems, finger-like leaves and long peduncles, at the ends of which multi-flowered umbrellas of inflorescences are formed. Even in indoor conditions, after artificial pollination, flowers can transform into fruit pods with seeds.
Varieties of rosaceous pelargonium
Breeding work aimed at increasing the number of colors and sizes of pink-like inflorescences has led to the fact that the number of varieties of flowers has increased so much that it took the efforts of flower growers in many countries to classify and describe them. Florists from England, Australia, USA, France created flower lovers' clubs from the Geraniev family.
On the initiative and with the active participation of the German company Pelargonium-Fischer, a flower museum was opened, in which in 1978 about 1200 species of pelargonium were displayed. Flower varieties and hybrids created by Fischer's specialists are put up for sale with the names in which this brand is indicated.
The most popular Fisher Pelargoniums are herbaceous perennial shrubs that can be grown outdoors only in southern Russia, in other regions of Fisher Apleblossom Pelargoniums are used as indoor plants. These include:
- hybrid pelargonium Fischers Appleblossom is a compact shrub that can reach a height of about 1 m, with large densely double white-pink inflorescences collected on a short peduncle in a dense group. Pelargonium Fisher Apleblossom quickly forms new shoots, therefore, without shaping and pruning, it can look like a small flower bed of blooming roses in a pot;
- the zonal rose-colored hybrid Ungarisk Appleblossom has velvety petals painted on the front side in bright red shades with lilac shades located at the edges, the inside of the petal has a white tint. Lush dense inflorescences are held on a high peduncle. The plant is demanding on the conditions of maintenance, therefore, in order for its leaves to have the emerald color characteristic of the hybrid, the bush must be grown in a well-lit room with the sun;
- The lush, powerful Rosebud Westdale Appleblossom has bicolor leaves with a dark green center and light milk edges. The inflorescences are collected in dense caps of semi-open roses of pale pink shades; on some varieties of the hybrid, the flower petals are shaded with a dark pink or red border. The view is rather moody;
- unpretentious kind of geranium Knight Appleblossom F1 can bloom not only in bright light, but also in partial shade outdoors in the warm season. The inflorescences of the plant usually have two shades - a light pink core and pink-carmine edges of the petals. The hybrid is unique in that its leaves in the light become two-colored - bright green at the edges and dark cherry in the center;
- Pelargonium Happy Appleblossom will take the leading place in any flower collection. The plant forms tall peduncles with large bouquets of white-pink inflorescences. They look very advantageous against the background of leaves with the middle of a light green shade in the shape of a butterfly. But if the bushes of a plant are left without timely pruning, their stems will stretch out strongly and bend ugly under the weight of flowers;
- long-flowering compact bushes Exotica Appleblossom, growing indoors on a light windowsill, are decorated with pale pink double roses. Under the influence of the bright sun in outdoor conditions, the inflorescence petals acquire a rich pink or salmon color.
Fischers Appleblossom Pelargonium Care
Geranium hybrid plants are popular because they have a very beautiful flowering, bright shades of leaves, compact bushes. But so that they do not lose their qualities, they need constant care. These plants will stretch out their stems if they grow in a dimly lit room. It is imperative to follow the shape of the crown of plants: in the spring and autumn, carry out the formation of the bush, cut and thin out old and deformed branches, shorten the shoots, remove dried peduncles and leaves.
Pelargoniums at the time of flowering need regular watering with settled, rain or spring water at room temperature. Every two weeks in spring and summer, flowering plants in the root zone after the main watering are applied with solutions of complex fertilizers.
In spring, summer until mid-autumn, pelargoniums bloom actively. From mid-October to the end of February, plants need to be placed in cool rooms so that they stop their development and can take a break from active processes. During this period, the flowers are not fed, they are watered when the soil in the flower pots dries up by 1/3.
The propagation of hybrid plants cannot be carried out with the help of seeds, many novice amateur flower growers regret this very much, because not everyone immediately succeeds in rooting a stalk of geranium or pelargonium. But this is worth learning in order to be able to admire such beautiful flowers as Fischers Appleblossom pelargoniums.
