When is it better to plant roses in open ground

Roses are very capricious plants. The health and flowering of the plant depends on the correct planting. One of the important points in growing a crop is determining the timing of planting.

When is it better to plant roses in open ground

The timing of planting a flower largely depends on the region of cultivation and the type of root system of the flower. Most often, the choice is between spring and autumn. On this score, flower growers often disagree.

Rose bushes

Before figuring out when is the best time to plant roses in fall or spring, you need to know what type of root system the flower has.

  • In the summer, the bushes are planted in containers.
  • In autumn and spring, seedlings with all types of root systems can be planted.

Most often, roses are planted in spring or fall. In summer, flowers are rarely planted.

How to choose the season for planting - spring, summer or autumn

Spring is best suited for planting planting material obtained by cuttings. Cuttings are very weak and delicate.

The most favorable period for disembarkation is the second half of April - early May. The soil should warm up to a depth of 15-20 cm. In the spring, plants should also be planted in the ground in the northern regions, where the winters are harsh. Also in the spring you can plant bushes in the middle lane.

In other cases, an autumn planting is suitable. Many growers are of the opinion that in the fall the rose should be planted as early as possible, while it is still warm. But you shouldn't do that. If you plant a plant when it is very warm outside, then it will quickly take root and begin to sprout. When the cold comes, they will die.

Dates of planting roses in different regions

When it is better to plant roses - in spring or autumn, and how it depends on the region of growing the flower, is described in the table below:

Southern regionsIn the south, a rose is planted in open ground in the fall, in late September - early October.
central partIn the central lane, both autumn and spring planting is suitable. The choice of planting time in this case will depend on the type of root system and other factors.
Northern regionsIn the north, it is best to replant shrubs outdoors in the spring. Winters in these latitudes are harsh and start quite early. If the flower is planted in the spring, then by winter it will have time to take root.

How to plant roses in the garden in spring - features, requirements and step-by-step instructions

In order to grow healthy roses, you need to properly plant a flower in the country.

How to plant seedlings

Before growing roses on the site, you need to prepare them:

  1. Before planting an open root system, the roots are cut into 1/3 part. If the root system is closed, the flower is planted with the ground.
  2. If the root system of the seedling is open, then before planting, you need to dip the roots in a clay solution. To prepare it, you need to dilute the clay in water to a creamy consistency. Then dip the roots into the solution and immediately start planting, until the clay has dried.

Next, you need to go directly to the landing:

  1. Dig a hole, 60x60 wide, 60-70 cm deep. Fill a shallow drainage at the bottom, then pour a layer of fertile soil mixed with humus.
  2. Pour water into the hole and wait until it is completely absorbed.
  3. Carefully spread the roots and place the seedling in the hole, bury it with soil and tamp the soil.
  4. Pour plenty of warm water over the hole.
  5. After watering, the seedling is spud.

After the seedling gives the first shoots, the soil is harvested after hilling. This is best done in cloudy weather or in the evening.

Note!During planting, do not put mineral fertilizers into the hole. You need to let the flower take root first.

Is it possible to plant roses in the fall, in what time frame

The most successful period for planting rose bushes in autumn is the second half of September - mid-October. If the seedling was purchased earlier, you need to store it properly before planting. Seedlings with an open root system are stored in a cool room at a temperature of +4 degrees. In the warm season at low temperatures, the kidneys will not begin to wake up.

When planting roses with a closed root system, seedlings do not need to be prepared. Although there is an opinion that the earthen lump should be softened before planting so that it is easier for the roots to grow through it into the ground.

A bush with an open rhizome must first be prepared. The roots are cut to 1/3 of the length. If they are dry, then before planting, the rhizome is immersed in water for several hours. Immediately before planting, the rhizome is dipped in a clay mixture. To prepare it, you need to mix clay with water, add mullein.

How to grow a rose in autumn:

  1. Dig a hole 60x60, the depth of the hole is about 70 cm.
  2. Fill the bottom with humus and drainage.
  3. Then fill up a layer of earth, water the soil.
  4. When all the water has been absorbed, you can start planting.
  5. After planting the bush in the soil, the soil is tamped and watered abundantly.

Attention! After planting, be sure to spud the bush.

The second stage of planting a rose bush in the fall is its shelter for the winter. They cover the bush a little later, closer to the onset of cold weather. The flower is once again spud, wrapped with agrofibre and covered with spruce branches on top. In the southern regions, it is not necessary to cover the bush so much, it is enough just to huddle it.

How to water a rose after planting

Follow-up care of roses

Regardless of what time of the year the rose was planted, after planting the flower must be looked after.

Features of flower care:

  • In the first year, the flower should not be allowed to form too many buds and bloom often. It is advisable to leave 1-2 buds on each branch, cut off the rest. Thanks to this procedure, most of the nutrients will go to the formation of the roots of the system.
  • Newly planted bushes need a lot of water. The soil should be watered as soon as the soil is dry. Warm water should be used for irrigation. Irrigation with ice water leads to the appearance of fungal diseases and freezing of the roots. Moreover, you should not do this if the landing was carried out in the fall.
  • After a few weeks, fertilization should be started in the soil. In the autumn, less fertilizing is required. It is enough 1-2 times before the onset of cold weather to feed the flower with complex mineral fertilizers with a low nitrogen content in the composition.
  • It is advisable to mulch the soil near the bushes. This measure will prevent the emergence of weeds. Also, the soil will not dry out, but will be constantly moistened. In the cold season, mulch will prevent the root system from freezing. You can mulch with peat, sawdust, manure. The layer must be at least 15 cm.
  • If mulching has not been carried out, it is imperative to loosen the soil and remove weeds. 2-3 times a month you need to weed the soil before watering.

How to cover a rose for the winter

Important! We must not forget that roses are thermophilic and light-loving plants, so you should not plant them near groundwater and under the crown of trees.

The choice of when to plant rose bushes depends on a number of factors. If you choose the wrong time for planting, then the flower will be harder to take root in a new place.
