  • in early spring, hang up specialized traps for butterflies, whose larvae cause significant damage to the buds, consisting of glued houses with sticky sheets impregnated with pheromones;
  • after opening the buds, the stems are regularly inspected, since they may contain clutches that need to be removed;
  • before blooming, plants need to be sprayed with nitrophen, in May - with bifenthrin.

Note! If areas damaged by caterpillars have appeared on the upper sections of the shoots, then they must be excised, and the places of the cuts should be treated with copper sulfate.

What chemicals to treat roses if caterpillars have begun to eat them

The fight against the invasion of parasites is carried out in different ways. Chemical solutions can be purchased at flower and garden stores. They easily destroy larvae and adult insects, and help prevent repeated attacks of pests. Treatment is carried out in the morning or evening in dry and calm weather.

Chemicals are best used in the morning.

If caterpillars are found on roses, than treat with chemicals:

  • nitrophene. Recommended for use at the first sign of pests. Shrubs are sprayed with a solution of the drug from the first days of spring. The tool shows maximum efficiency when single larvae appear, prevents a repeated attack of parasites for 2 months. For the procedure, 300 ml of the substance is diluted in 10 liters of water, the resulting chemical is sprayed not only with roses, but also with growing crops;
  • actara. Refers to insecticides with a wide spectrum of action. The destruction of insects takes place after one full procedure due to the penetration of active components into the structure of the foliage. The mixture protects shrubs from rain and high temperatures, the effectiveness is maintained for one calendar month. For spraying, mix 8 g of actara in 10 liters of water. If the need arises, you can re-process roses no earlier than 30 days after the first procedure;
  • actelik. Professional exterminator of indoor and garden pests. The procedure is carried out regardless of the growing season; for prevention, the bushes are sprayed in late May or early June. The duration of the action of the chemical is about a month, the maximum efficiency is noted during the first 2 hours. To prepare the solution, 2 ml of actellik is diluted in 2 liters of water.

Important! Biological preparations can also be used to kill caterpillars. Their active components cause disruption of vital processes in the body of parasites, after 10 days they die. Each bush can be sprayed only twice a month, the duration of the procedures is the entire period of possible pest attacks.

Folk remedies for fighting caterpillars

The destruction of pests can be carried out using alternative methods.If roses are eaten by green caterpillars, what is the best treatment? You can use one of the folk recipes:

  • burdock solution: 1/3 of the enamel bucket is filled with fresh plant leaves, water is added to the container and the mixture is infused for 72 hours;
  • decoction of nightshade: take 5 kg of chopped foliage on a bucket, add 10 liters of water, boil for 4 hours, add 4 liters of liquid after filtration. Problem areas are treated with a cold solution;
  • with a decoction of wormwood: for 1 g of plants, take 3 liters of water, the mixture is boiled for 10 minutes, at the end, 10 liters of liquid are added and left for 10 days;
  • mustard powder. They are sprinkled on the ground near the bushes. The method helps to prevent the tracks from moving with nearby crops.

Spraying with solution

Shrubs can be pollinated with a solution of mustard. To prepare the composition, take 100 g of powder and 10 liters of water. After complete dissolution, the finished mixture is sprayed with roses. After a day, the bushes can be washed with clean water.
