How to understand that spathiphyllum is sick
If a flower begins to wither, wither, buds do not appear on it, most likely, it is sick. You need to inspect the plant to understand what caused this condition.
Differences between disease and insect damage
If the plant suffers from an attack of insects, spots appear on its leaves, and often the stem, and the pests of spathiphyllum themselves are noticeable:
- twisted and dry leaves may indicate that aphids have settled on them. These are small green insects. They are visible to the naked eye;
- spider mites are visible on the back of the leaf. Withered leaves often indicate its presence. A thin web tightly covers the surface of the leaf plate;
- scabbard gives out itself as dark spots on the leaves;
- the mealybug resembles a fly. It is white and hides between the leaves. It is not difficult to notice it.
Frequent root and leaf diseases
The actions of flower growers aimed at treating spathiphyllum depend on the disease that struck him.
Root rot
The description of the disease lies in its name. The roots of the plant can rot due to the action of fungi. The disease develops under the influence of the following factors:
- excessive watering;
- low acidity of the soil;
- too dense soil.
With root rot, it is necessary to remove the affected areas in order to save the plant. After that, it needs to be transplanted.
Late blight
Late blight is a dangerous disease that first affects the roots of a plant, and then spreads its destructive effect on the stems and leaves. The plant stops growing, begins to dry out and eventually dies. It will not work to get rid of the fungal disease; the flower will have to be destroyed. Moreover, you need to get rid of the earth from the pot.
Chlorosis
Chlorosis of spathiphyllum occurs when the flower lacks iron. At the same time, its leaves turn yellow, only the veins retain a green tint. Chlorosis can be caused by improper watering or root rot.
Gommoz
Under the influence of bacteria, the leaves of the flower turn black at the edges and wither. Other plants located nearby can also suffer from gommosis.
Problems with bud formation and flowering
If spathiphyllum does not set buds or it blooms extremely rarely, the problem is as follows:
- there is not enough sunlight;
- too large a pot;
- poor soil or, conversely, oversaturated with minerals, especially nitrogen.

If this is true, then you should take care of the quality of the drainage layer. It will eliminate the accumulation of moisture in the flower pot;
- when the leaves change their shape, begin to curl, and then dry, it is necessary to move the plant closer to the sun;
- a dry stem indicates that the flower is being damaged by a mealybug. You can fight it by wiping the aerial parts of the plant with a cotton swab, which must be moistened with alcohol;
- flowers can turn black from waterlogging of the soil or excess fertilizers in it. To cure the plant, you need to process the soil using a foundationol solution;
- yellow leaves confirm that spathiphyllum is under scorching sunlight, you need to create diffused lighting for it;
- aphids and spider mites can be defeated with a decoction based on onion peels: 100 g of raw materials are poured with warm water, after 5 days you need to add laundry soap.
Prevention of flower diseases

Women's happiness is a flower, the care of which cannot be called difficult and burdensome. Almost everything can be prevented, and if it did not work out, you will have to work a little to improve the health of the flower. The exception is late blight, which does not make sense to treat, the plant will die anyway.
