At the mention of the phrase "indoor plants" all at once represent the usual geraniums and figs. However, there are many colors of unusual, sometimes even bizarre, shapes. Unusual, rare and exotic indoor flowers will be listed below.

Unusual indoor plants

Calathea

Almost every variety of calathea has its own special pattern of leaf plates, the color palette is also different.

The plant usually has two leaf colors. Leaves can have herringbone, striped, spotted patterns.

It is interesting! Some varieties, like saffron calathea, are also highly valued for their bright and beautiful flowering.

Calathea, depending on the species, has different patterns on the leaves.

Exotic tropical indoor flowers

In modern interiors, exotic indoor plants are most appreciated. Now it is not necessary to grow only compact bushes, the main thing is that they are unusual with an unusual shape of flowers and leaves. Almost all tropical plants meet these criteria. Exotic indoor flowers are not always capricious and demanding to care for, some can grow well and bloom profusely without close attention.

Orchids

Exotic indoor orchids come in many different types and varieties. Some of them have very unusual bud shapes.

  • The orchid bud of the Flying Duck is very similar to a bird that has spread its wings and is ready to take off.
  • The orchid has a Happy Alien, orange buds look like strange people with strange ears.
  • The bud of the Ballerina variety resembles a dancer with her hands up.

A well-known fact! Datura contains alkaloids that have a hallucinogenic effect on the human body. Therefore, it is not recommended to put dope in places accessible to children and pets.

Passionflower

Passionflower is perhaps the most interesting of the exotic home flowers from the above list.

In the plant, the upper part of the leaf plate is colored green, and the lower one is gray. A curly smooth stem in natural conditions can grow up to 10 meters.

Large buds have a different color palette: from cream to purple shades. The shape of the flowers is a star, they are located on high pedicels.

Gusmania

Speaking of exotic, it is worth mentioning the tropical flower gusmania.

The plant is a "relative" of the pineapple and its flower has an external resemblance to this fruit. The bush has long xiphoid green leaves and inflorescences in the form of an ear, which are painted in white, purple, red shades. Gusmania begins to bloom only in the third year of life.

Note! Gusmania is not easy to grow in mid and northern latitudes, as the plant is very picky to care for. However, there are several varieties that are more adapted to the harsh climate: Rondo minor and Mix.

The rarest indoor flowers

Many unusual plants have not yet reached all corners of the earth and have just begun to gain popularity, which makes them very rare in home floriculture.

Pseudolithos

Pseudolithos, upon first acquaintance, cannot be immediately called a plant. It looks more like an unusual species of sea animal. The plant belongs to succulents and looks like a green stone.

On the surface of pseudolithos, stems of a dull green color rarely grow, the length of which is about 5-10 centimeters.

Large triangular buds are located on a yellow-red corolla and are painted in a burgundy shade.

Trachyandra or Trachyandra

Trachyandra is considered a rare domestic flower, primarily due to poor adaptation to a climate different from its native southern climate.

The plant is a distant "relative" of aloe, but is significantly smaller in size. It has twisted green leaves 25 centimeters long. From a distance, leaf plates look like rubber or plastic toys.

Unusual trachyandra leaves

Trachyandra has long, tall, pink-white, star-shaped peduncles.

In the world there are countless unusual and rare exotic flowers of amazing shapes that can be grown indoors. There are more and more of them every year, so you may have to sort them into a special category alphabetically. Every year in large cities of the world there are presentations of new species and varieties of rare exotic flowers bred by breeders. The event also reached the countries of the post-Soviet space. The exhibition has already visited Moscow, Riga, Minsk and Kiev.
